September 20, 2014What to do when you lose a stylist at the last minute?
That’s the situation my makeup artist Liv Lundelius and I found ourselves in two days before a shoot. No stylist = No clothes and, while you could technically go ahead with the shoot sans clothing, I think that takes you away from “fashion” photography and into some other kind of photography. At this junction, we had two choices:
Choice A: Call it a day and walk away.
Choice B: Scramble together a concept and shoot something anyway, displaying the proverbial middle finger to misfortune and making use of what would otherwise be a day of chocolate-eating and reruns of Captain Planet.
Not to ruin any surprises, but we went with Choice B.
Our concept centred around a mirroring concept - Taking an image and folding in into itself. We decided to take a monochromatic view to the makeup and colours, creating a shift from black-to-white across the course of 7 images or so, a sort of gradient-shift in beauty.
